I was invited to the launch of the most talk about motorbike that hit the streets of Manila, the KTM Duke 200.
If you have never heard of the brand and the heritage of KTM here is a brief history. It is a Austria brand that started 1954 and is most commonly known for it’s off road motorcycles. KTM name stands for the owners name Kronreif & Trunkenpolz Mattighofen. The brand KTM motorcycle gained most of its success in motorsports by dominating rally-raid events such as the Paris-Dakar Rally and the Atlas-Rally.
So basically hearing all this stuff already shows the racing durability of the brand. So expect this bike out of the box in factory setting in “Ready to Race”. These three words are far more than a mere slogan. They stand for the entire philosophy of the company to develop vehicles that are already factory can claim 100% in every race.
I meet Toti Albreto a two-time Philippines Superbike Champion and the President CEO of KTM Philippines, also the owner of Access Plus the authorized dealer and distributor of KTM bikes here in the Philippines. He shared his insights of why they brought the Duke 200 here, he said that he is happy to have an entry level high end bike that the Filipinos can easily own and enjoy. That the Duke 200 caters to not just the loyalist of the brand but also to a motorcycle nut that knows, and aspires to own the brand. It is also affordable that it is now easy to archived one, especially with the easily loan plans from BPI bank.
Albreto said this bike is so good that he was able to take it to Tagaytay and run for 37kms per Liter and riding it normally, not economically. The bikes top speed is 140kph with a 199.5cc displacement that produces a maximum power of 25bhp at 10,000rpm.
You also get the gizmos that you would normally get on a high end bike. Like digital, trip meter, Eco meter and ect, all it for the price of 195,000pesos.
I took the Duke for a spin in the small parking lot and I knew I couldn’t do much to test it around the area. I’m a very tall guy and I wanted to see how my size would fix in its frame. To my surprise I fit in it well and I look good in it too. Who wouldn’t look GOOD in this bike? Crazy, but this bike looks so hot that you want to ride it. My friend, who doesn’t know how to ride or have any intentions of doing so, just had to change his view when he saw the Duke. He just said if that’s the bike I will start to learn and I will ride the Duke 200 every day.
Performance during my short test around the parking lot, still has to be written anther day, when I get it for a longer test drive. But during the stunt demo you can see this bike doesn’t lack power. It does burnouts, and easily pop willies. After seeing all that I just wanted one. Checkout the video and see.
You can now own and loan one from BPI in term plans of 12, 24, and36 months. Lowest monthly payment of 4,723 pesos a month and the lowest down payment of 39,000 pesos and you can ride this KTM Duke 200 home.
